A 16-year-old is due before Dublin District Court this morning charged in connection with the murder of two Polish men in Dublin.


The teenage boy was one of five youths arrested by Gardai investigating the fatal screwdriver attack on the two young Polish friends in Drimnagh on February 23rd.

The 16-year-old youth is the only person so far to face charges in connection with the deaths of 27-year-old Marius Swajkos and 29-year-old Pavel Kalite.

Another four teenagers have been arrested and released over the past few weeks by Gardai investigating the killings.

The two men were attacked by a group of teenagers on the Benbulben Road in Drimnagh and stabbed with screwdrivers on the evening of Saturday the 23rd of February.

They died a few days later in hospital from their injuries.

There was widespread condemnation of the attacks and a memorial service and a vigil which were held for the men in Drimnagh two weeks ago were attended by thousands of people including the President and the Justice Minister.

Last week, the Polish Information and Culture Board released a statement expressing their concern at the progress in the investigation.

The 16-year-old is due before Dublin District Court at 10.30am this morning.
