Extra airport security checks on electronic devices
Passengers to and from the UK are being advised that airports are carrying out additional security checks on electronic equipment in their hand luggage. Passengers may be requested to remove the devices from their protective covers and to turn them on. Following this check, passengers will be allowed to take their electronic devices on board.
Airports refuse electronics that have not been sufficiently charged
The regulation only applies to hand luggage and to all electronics with batteries, such as mobile phones, laptops, tablets, cameras, e-readers, small games consoles and MP3 players. During checks—which will be carried out at the gate before boarding—passengers will have to remove their devices from the protective covers and turn them on. If this is not possible due to the battery being insufficiently charged, then passengers will not be allowed to take the devices with them onto the aircraft.
