Brokers: Review non-national insurance

The Irish Brokers Association (IBA) today called on the Government
to review the guidelines which allow vehicles insured under a
foreign policy to use Irish roads

Stuart Reid, Director of General Services for the IBA, said that
many non-nationals driving on Irish roads used insurance policies
which were sourced from insurance companies in their home
countries.

In such circumstances, Reid said, the level of cover which those
companies were required to provide victims of accidents (third
party cover) was dramatically lower than would be the case with
Irish insurance companies

Irish insurance policies must provide for a minimum cover of some
E30 million for a third party claim.

However in Poland that figure is just E1.5 million per claim

In Latvia it is E355,750 per claim and in Lithuania it is just
E145,000 per claim
