An agreement has been reached between Hollywood and the creator of
the popular file-sharing software BitTorrent in a move aimed to reduce illegal internet traffic in pirated films. The deal requires BitTorrent creator Bram Cohen to remove web links that direct users to pirated content owned by the seven studios that are members of the Motion Picture Association of America. It is believed the agreement could lead to Hollywood films being distributed legally using the BitTorrent software, which is used by an estimated 45 million people. The MPAA estimates that the film industry lost USD3.5bn to movie piracy last year, a figure which does not include losses because of illegal online file-swapping
