Key Purpose of Job

Globoforce is looking for Senior Software Engineer/Software Architect who will join the IT Architecture team in providing technical solutions to our business requirements. The individual should have worked in an enterprise design and implementation role previously. The IT Architecture team is responsible for the architecture of company products, analysis of product requirements, and the development and feasibility analysis of new product ideas.

Main Responsibilities
• Analysing business requirements to produce functional specifications, proposing various alternative technical solutions based on different architectures and techniques and providing realistic and accurate development estimates.
• Performing high-level design based on provided business requirements.
• Designing IT solution architectures to address the organisation’s long term strategic needs.
• Specifying changes and enhancements to our platform.
• Designing unit and integration test plans.
• Participating in project planning
• Monitoring industry trends, technologies and standards for potential internal use.

Key skills / experience:

• Prior involvement in a number of projects using Java / J2EE in a web based environment in an Architectural capacity
• 7 years or more Java/J2EE programming, in particular Servlets, JDBC, Java Server Pages, etc.
• Experience of JBoss/Web Logic, Apache, Tomcat, EJBs, JSP, JDBC, MySQL, JUNIT, PL/SQL environments
• Good understanding of current development frameworks / approaches (Struts / Spring / Hibernate)
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with a keen attention to detail
• Good understanding of OOAD, UML & Design Patterns
• Knowledge of databases; data modelling, administration, optimisation
• Systems profiling and performance tuning
• Knowledge of high availability, redundancy, failover and disaster recovery
• Strong problem solving capabilities.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• Software development effort estimation experience
• Appreciation and experience of open source technologies
• Computer Science degree or equivalent
