Official Traffic Restrictions for Saturday 1st May

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

It is anticipated that a number of groups will hold protests on May Day. There will be a strong Garda presence on the streets of Dublin across the weekend.



DUBLIN

To facilitate the many events being held over the weekend a number of traffic restrictions and diversions will be put in place.

PHOENIX PARK:

The Phoenix Park will be closed to all Traffic and Pedestrians from 6pm on Friday April 30th. It is anticipated that it will reopen early on Sunday Morning May 2nd.

From 18.00 hrs on Friday 30th April, Martins Row, Knockmaroon Hill and Tower Road will be closed to traffic except for local access.

The main Traffic diversion routes around the Phoenix Park will be the N4 (Chapelizod Bypass/Con Colbert Road/St. Johns Road) and the N3 (Navan Road/Cabra Roads). All local traffic in the Castleknock area will have to exit onto the N4/N3 via local roads.

The North Circular Road is closed from Hanlons Corner to the Phoenix Park except for local access.

The N4 (Chapelizod Bypass, Con Colbert Road, St Johns Road West) will be open to traffic. The Chapelizod Slip Road will be closed except for local access.

Traffic travelling along the South Quays will not be allowed turn right over Frank Sherwin Bridge (adjacent to Heuston Rail Station). All inbound traffic travelling along St. Johns Road West will be diverted right on this bridge and along the North Quays.

DUBLIN CASTLE:

There will be traffic restrictions in place on the following streets: Wexford St, Kevin St. Lower, Parliament St, Dame St, South Great George's St, Nicholas St and Christchurch Place.

MERRION SQUARE:

Merrion Square will be closed to traffic all day on Saturday May 1st.

CORK

Patrick St will close from 6am - 6pm for May Day Celebrations to take place. A family day will also take place at Fitzgerald Park, no traffic restriction will be in place for that.

CASTLEBLANEY, MONAGHAN

The May Day parade is taking place in Castleblaney town on the N2 Dublin to Derry Rd at 2.30pm to 5pm. Traffic from Dublin must divert via Carrickmacross, Ballybay and to Monoghan and traffic from Monaghan should divert via Clontibret, Ballybay and to Carrickmacross.

LIMERICK

Georges Quay and Creagh Lane will be closed to thru vehicle traffic and on-street parking from 4.00a.m on Saturday 1st May, 2004 until 6.00p.m on Monday 3rd May, 2004 to facilitate May fest events. Access to Barrington’s Hospital is permitted from Mary Street and access to Creagh Lane will be permitted from Mary Street.

WATERFORD

Jenkins Lane Car Park will be closed from 9am on Thursday, April 29th up until Monday, May 3rd . (until approximately 7pm). Traffic will not be able to enter Jenkins lane from the Sergeants Lane, Meeting House Lane or Broad Street side.

A French Market will be in place from 10am to 6pm each from Thursday to Monday.

On Saturday. April 1st There will be several events taking place all day. There will be a European Information Stall, a parade and live music all day in John Roberts Square until 6.30pm, minor disruption is expected. People will gather at 1pm for the Parade, which will go down down the Quay, out onto the Dunmore Road finishing up at the People’s Park at 2.15pm.
