The High Court in a landmark case have shot down the concept of non-EU nationals whom marry a non-Irish EU national in Ireland being entitled to residency in Ireland. The High Court have decided that residency should only be allowed to occur in such cases where the couple come to Ireland already as a couple from another EU state. Accordingly, all those marriages of convenience we have seen in the recent past of non-EU nationals marrying Eastern Europeans in Ireland will not result in any residency rights accruing.
