70 new jobs to be created in Kildare

70 new jobs are being created at a software development company in Co Kildare.

Sentenial is officially opening its new offices in Maynooth today.

The company - which supplies payment systems for banks across Europe - says it plans to create 70 new positions there.

More details are expected to be announced after a visit by Tánaiste Mary Coughlan to the offices later today.

The news comes a day after mixed news on the employment front in Co Cork yesterday, when it was announced that the Beamish and Crawford Brewery is to close, with the loss of 120 jobs.

Owner Heineken said high costs had made the 200-year-old plant unsustainable.

Meanwhile 650 new positions were also announced for Cork yesterday at Quinn Insurance, and internet company Open Wireless
