Boom in babies is highest in 100yrs
Если кто ещё не прочитал передовицу в Metro, то я приведу её тут:
Цитата:
IRELAND is experiencing a baby boom with the highest number of births seen in more than a century.
A total of 75,065 babies were born last year – a figure not seen since 1896 – with almost half to first-time mothers.
In February, Bishop of Killala and president of crisis pregnancy counselling service Cura, John Fleming, warned the recession was making women doubt they could afford children.
But the Central Statistics Office said 38,593 boys and 36,472 girls were born last year, with more than a third outside of marriage.
Jack topped the most common boys’ name for the second year running, while Ava took the No.1 spot for newborn girls for the first time, beating Katie.
The five top boys’ names – Jack, Seán, Conor, Daniel and James – were on the same list in 2007.
There was more variety in the girls’ top names. Emma and Sarah have been on the list since 1998 and Katie since 2003, while Emily and Ava have made their first appearance.
Reflecting the new Ireland, there were five firsttime entries for the top 100 boys’ names – Jakub, Kacper, Filip, Billy and Patryk – and four firsttime entries to the top 100 for girls: Maja, Natalia, Zuzanna and Meabh.
