Birth control pill kills 23 women

Twenty-three Canadian women have died and hundreds more were harmed from taking two of the world's most common birth control pills, according to local media.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has said 600 women reported adverse health reactions after taking the products called Yaz and Yasmin.

Twenty-three women died, including a 14-year-old girl, mostly from blood clots.

The German manufacturer, Bayer, is now the target of lawsuits in Canada, the US and elsewhere by women who claim they have been harmed by a synthetic hormone it contains.
