Both hard-hitting and inspiring, ‘The Economics of Happiness’ is a new documentary about the worldwide movement for economic localisation.

The Economics of Happiness describes a world moving simultaneously in two opposing directions. On the one hand, government and big business continue to promote economic globalization and the consolidation of corporate power. At the same time, all around the world people are resisting those policies, demanding a re-regulation of trade and finance — and, far from the old institutions of power, they’re starting to forge a very different future. Communities are coming together to re-build more human scale, ecological and local economies – the foundation of an ‘economics of happiness’.

Join director Helena Norberg-Hodge for a special Dublin screening of ‘The Economics of Happiness’. The film will be followed by a panel discussion with the director and special guests including, economist Richard Douthwaite of FEASTA, journalist Mick Kelly founder of GIY, educator Suzie Cahn from Transition Ireland and Northern Ireland and Sarah Fleming representing Slow Food International. Davie Philip, the Community Resilience coordinator from Cultivate, will chair the discussion.

Information from each of the organisations involved will be available and the evening will act as an informal social and networking opportunity for those active in building the local economy.
