Dear Mr. ..............,

My name is V............., and I have been living and working in Ireland for almost six years now. I have a unlimited work permit; I pay my taxes, pay rent, and pay for my children’s education in the Irish School System – all without the help of the Irish Government. In fact, since I arrived in this Country, neither I nor any members of my family have benefited from any social welfare payments.

Eighteen months ago, I applied for long-term residency (ref. ............); however, the Immigration Office told me that I have to wait another twelve months for confirmation of this application. I do not understand this, as I was given to believe that under Irish Law, if you’ve been working and paying tax in Ireland for five years, and are a person of good character, and then you can get long-term residency or Irish citizenship.

At the moment, I’m on an unlimited work permit; however, if I change my job, I have to apply again for a new work permit. After almost six years; this seems crazy to me! This unreasonable protocol is stopping my wife and me from buying a house, becoming self-employed, educating our children to University stand, and fully contributing to the Irish Society.

I have achieved much since arriving in Ireland, in 2005 I was awarded the .................; in 2006, I came .................; and I hope to do equally well this year. It’s my ambition to set up my own ............... company, however, without full-residency, this dream will never be a reality.

Other Non-Nationals seem to abuse the social welfare system, and yet gain residency faster – for example, by giving birth to children in Ireland. I am an honest, hard-working individual, that wants to contribute to the Irish economy, and yet I’m prevented from doing this.

I already see my family and myself as Irish; I just wish the Irish Immigration Office could see us in the same light.

I appeal to you to help me get long-term residency/Irish citizenship as soon as possible, so that I can not only start to build a better life in Ireland for myself and my family, but also so that I begin to fully bring my expertise and knowledge to this country, to make it an even better Ireland,
