Description

The scope of this position involves the day to day support of Windows and UNIX users in an engineering/R&D computing environment located locally in Dublin as well working as a part of the IT group supporting the European region.

Responsibilities include configuring, installing, documenting, and maintaining computing equipment; responding to internal multi-country customer trouble calls about computer problems and outages; troubleshooting, diagnosis, and management of internal and external resources to correct problems.

Duties primarily include PC/Windows machine deployment, debugging and problem resolution. Some vendor liaison activity for procurement issues of hardware and software products. Assist with system backup and ensure the integrity of backup data. Support local users with Microsoft NT/XP and the business environment systems as well as first tier support for the local telephone system. Provide first tier hands-on support for local UNIX system debugging and work with the European team with upgrades, complex troubleshooting, and system maintenance.

Work with a team of system administrators who support the European sites along with the extended Synopsys corporate support staff. Take corrective action to fix potential problems or communicate potential issues to appropriate personnel. Ability to solve problems quickly, with good follow-through and communication to verify completion.

Minimum Requirements

Expected to work independently to schedule, prioritise, accomplish, and communicate IT tasks effectively and responsibly. A proactive and positive approach to computer operations problems and a good cross functional understanding in the areas of Security, Networking and Operating system interoperability will be expected.

At least 2 years IT support experience in a heterogeneous computing environment working with Windows systems. Professional English interpersonal and communication skills along with independent problem solving and self-direction are required. Experience with Compilers, C, Shell and Perl scripting will be helpful.

Flexibility, team player and multilingual (English/French/German) communication skills are a definite asset. Proficient English communication is mandatory other language skills will be appreciated. Ability to travel occasionally around Europe or to other worldwide destinations.

Education and Experience:

Education in Windows Systems administration and operations
Two or more years experience in Windows operating systems administration or related fields. Support experience on major UNIX platforms like Redhat Enterprise, Solaris, with the ability to perform software installations.

Experience with programming in administrative languages such as C, Shell and Perl is appreciated. Experience with network file servers (Network Appliance).

Knowledge and experience in heterogeneous development/support environments such as UNIX/NT, LSF, Sun Grid Engine, Citrix TS, source code management tools like Perforce and relevant administration experience, are a plus.
Driver license and ability to lift up to 35 kg

Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to multitask and solve problems independently. Individual will interact with all levels of management and people with different styles. Must be able to work in a high pressure and ever-changing environment.
