What is it?
Family Day is Ireland’s largest celebration of the diversity of the family in Ireland today.

Family Day is celebrated at a day-long festival in Dublin’s beautiful Iveagh Gardens and throughout Ireland with lots of smaller activities. In 2013, Family Day takes place on Sunday 19 May with events in the Iveagh Gardens from 11am to 5pm. The programme offers entertainment, fun activities and useful information for all types of families and for the young and old. Come along, join in the fun and celebrate your family!

We believe all families matter, and that individuals who feel cared for and supported by those around them – whether families or others in their lives – help to make stronger communities for us all. We know that families are not all the same. We like the UN definition of family which refers to two or more people, bound together by mutual consent, birth and/or adoption or placement who together care for each other. We celebrate all types of family – one-parent families, step families, the traditional two-parent married family, adoptive and foster families, blended and extended families, those with opposite and same sex parents.

The first Family Day in the Iveagh Gardens was in 2011 and last year it more than doubled in size, attracting over 5,000 people. One Family has been highlighting Family Day in Ireland for the past decade, inspired by International Day of Families which is held on 15 May annually and was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1992.

Family Day is presented by One Family and EBS, and kindly supported by Today FM, OPW, Dublin City Council, people and organisations who donate skills and prizes, and a fantastic team of volunteers.

Entry and all activities are, and always will be, free of charge. You can bring your own picnic and there will be food vendors on site if you wish to purchase food or drinks.
