TalkTalk launches Irish operations

Carphone Warehouse-owned landline operator, TalkTalk has launched
its Irish operations claiming to undercut eircom's fixed-line
tariffs

The company said that all TalkTalk customers in Ireland can talk
to all other TalkTalk customers in both Ireland and the UK for
free and said that it is so confident that eircom customers will
save money that it will give E1,000 to anyone who can prove
otherwise

TalkTalk is a single billing product with no joining fee and no
requirement to change telephone number

"Rip-off Ireland! I think people are paying far too much for
telephone calls in Ireland and we recognised this as an
opportunity to introduce a new cost-saving telephone service,"
said Stephen Mackarel, CEO of The Carphone Warehouse Ireland

"We launched free calls on TalkTalk in the UK last year and their
current position as the number 1 alternative to British Telecom
illustrates its phenomenal success. There has previously been a
monopoly on line rental and telephone services in Ireland, we
believe the Irish market is now ready for an alternative which
brings significant savings," he said
