Irish National Marrying a Russian man who is living in Moscow

Hello Everyone,

I am Irish living in Ireland. I met a Russian man over a year ago abroad when we were both on holiday. He is living in Moscow and is a chef. We want to get married and live in ireland. I am trying to figure out the best way to do this but it is very confusing.

My understanding is this:

1) Apply for Marriage Visa - "C" shory stay visa - 3 months
2) he travels to ireland and we get married in Ireland
3) He then returns to Moscow
4) We then apply for a "join Family" "D" long stay visa
5) He comes to Ireland under D visa

Is this correct?

It seems very complicated.

You may be better of getting married in Russia. Here in Ireland they’ve introduced a new interview process for non-EU who wish to get married (this includes US and Canadian citizens). Not sure about now, but about 2 years ago I was chatting to a marriage registrar in Limerick and she was telling me the whole process was put on Hold as they were not clear as to who was supposed to conduct interviews as no guidance or training had been provided. I think, things have moved on since then but I saw people discussing on boards.ie long waiting times to go through the interview process, etc.

Ring the registrar office to see what’s the story with interview timelines, etc. It just may be quicker for you to get visa, fly to Russia, get married there and apply for his visa to come to Ireland to live with you through the local Irish Embassy.

Since when she becomes he? Easier to get married in Russia. She needs to go the wedding office where she lives and ask them what kind of documentation u both should provide. We did tge same

If it a traditional wedding (not same sex) then it is easier to get married in Russia. Your fiancée should contact the Registars office (zags) # 4 in Moscow and they explain all requirements to him. http://fottograff.ru/savelovskiy-zags He can even submit the application without you being present there so that you could travel to Russia only for the wedding.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the replies......yes I am a man and I met an amazing Russian man.
Getting married in Moscow is not an option for us so we need to work with Irish regulations as they stand.
The regulations seem very complicated but I will keep trying to get a clear answer.

What about getting married in one of the EU countries? Denmark seems to be very flexible
and you can organise everything online and just arrive there on the day of your marriage.

He will just need a Schengen visa, which is easy to get or he might have one already and there will be one less thing to do.

А вы прочитали, что написано? Я думаю суть как раз в том, чтобы никого никуда не причислять, особенно, во время такого важного дела как поход в туалет, а то, если много думать, можно не добежать))

Hi there

This is correct At least back in 2014 that was the right way ( if you replace marriage with civil partnership tho).

Before getting an official partnership certificate we have been together for about 4 years. Just saying if you want to make sure whether you really want to get married someone you met on holidays?

Civil partnership was scrapped after the marriage referendum and introduction of Marriage Act 2015.
