President-elect Barack Obama intends to nominate openly gay John Berry as director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).

Berry is currently going through the final vetting process with the Obama Transition Team, and a Democratic source confirms that he is Obama’s choice.

The LGBT community is happy with Obama’s choice.

Berry was assistant secretary of the Interior during Bill Clinton's administration. He previously worked for Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md., and as director of the National Fish and Wildlife Association. He is currently director of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, D.C.
