Call for EU-Russia energy partnership

The chairman of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs,
Michael Woods, today said that energy supply should be the clear
focus of the EU's new partnership with Russia.

Dr. Woods was addressing an EU Conference of Foreign Affairs
Committee Chairpersons (COFACC) in Berlin

Dr. Woods told the Conference that he hoped that "negotiations
could get under way during the German Presidency

on a new EU Partnership and Co-operation Agreement with Russia and
that the agreement

once concluded, will fully reflect the many changes in the

relationship that have taken place over the last decade".

"Given Russia's vast energy resources and impending difficulties
with energy supply in Europe, a partnership between the EU and
Russia has never been more necessary than it is today", Dr. Woods
said. He went on to say "that Russia is not just a vital partner,
it is an indispensable partner to the EU.

He told the delegates that "making energy supply a priority, is of

the utmost importance to the future of the European Union both
from its

relationship with the countries beyond its eastern borders and most

especially in its critical relationship with Russia"

He called on the Germany to do its utmost during their

Presidency of the EU and at the forthcoming EU-Russia

summit to be held in May, to ensure that progress is achieved on
this,

Ха, сначала им "дадут" их европейские друзья, а потом они дадут. Куда им деться

Может странно будет звучать, но все же... Вот у америкосов есть же закон, согласно которому ограничивается сотрудничество с "не дружественными" странами, и Россия могла бы ввести особый сбор для нерадивых. Например, ввиду предстоящего развертывания американской ПРО в Чехии и Польше, было бы логично выставить дополнительный сбор на поставляемый им газ и другие незаменимые товары. %)
