First position

Software Development Engineer Ref: VISU01/02

No. Open Positions: 2

Reporting to: Software Product Team Manager

The software development engineer has responsibility for the software development of one or more products. Responsibilities encompass all that is involved in doing so, including the following activities:

• Preparation, implementation, and maintenance of the software product requirements

• Development effort estimation

• Design, coding and unit testing software

• Interfacing with software test team in preparing and maintaining the quality of the software development effort during system test and release test phases

• Reporting on development effort within agreed formats and timescales

• Interfacing with development and technical management in preparing, implementing, and maintaining:
o Development Standards
o Development Processes and Practices
o Technical know how and development

• Adhering to Pilz Software Development Lifecycle, processes and practices

• Adhering to the Pilz Software Quality Management system

• Ensure activities meet with and integrate with Pilz Ireland organisation requirements for quality management, health and safety, HR policies and procedures and general duty of care

• Develop self, and maintain knowledge in relevant field at all times

Profile / Skills Required
A degree or equivalent in a related engineering or computer science discipline is required.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years Java Development experience in a software industry and have worked on a range of complex projects with team sizes ranging from small in-house development teams to large cross-functional teams.

Experience and extensive knowledge of all of the following technologies is required:
• Object Oriented Application Development
• Unified Modeling Language (UML) design
• Java component design and implementation
• SWT
• Eclipse Rich Client Platform

Experience in some or all the following technologies is an advantage:
• Java 2D drawing/computer graphics & animation
• Visualisation Systems
• SVG/flash
• Industrial applications/ SCADA systems
• Embedded systems/PDA development experience
• Eclipse Rich client development with GEF/GMF/EMF packages
• JUnit or other unit testing frameworks
• XML libraries and binding technologies

A portfolio of experience is required and areas of specialisation could include:
• Visualisation systems
• GUI development
• Real time data communication
• Ethernet based protocols

Some knowledge of Industrial Automation in particular PLC programming and or working knowledge of German would be a distinct advantage.

Experience in some or all the following technologies is an advantage:
• MFC
• ATL
• Java
• XML libraries and binding technologies

A portfolio of experience is required and areas of specialisation could include:
• GUI development
• Real time data communication
• Ethernet based protocols
