BoI launches migrant worker initiative

Bank of Ireland today said it had launched the first ever
programme of initiatives from an Irish bank to address the needs
of new and existing migrant worker customers

From next month, each of Bank of Ireland's 287 branches around the
country will provide key literature for migrant customers,
initially in three languages: Chinese (Mandarin), Polish and
Russian

The programme also includes the recruitment of bilingual branch
staff in key locations, with Polish, Chinese and Russian speakers
already in place in several of its Dublin branches

There is an estimated 230,000 migrant workers currently living and
working in Ireland, representing approximately 6pc of the total
population. The current inward migration forecast estimates that
by 2020 the number of immigrants in Ireland will be at least 10pc
of the total population and economic forecasts outline a
requirement for 45,000 migrant workers every year for the next 12
years, the bank said
